After months of anticipation and painfully fleeting hands-on time with the games’s beta, The Elder Scrolls Online has finally opened the expanse of its massively multiplayer fantasy world to the waiting throngs of role-playing PC/Mac gamers. Considering the scale of its release, it’s only proper that the standard disc and digital versions of the game have been accompanied by a richly appointed premium variant that’s destined to pique the interest of many of Tamriel’s more seasoned explorers.
Dubbed, The Elder Scrolls Online: Imperial Edition, this ($100 USD) set includes the game (of course) a beautifully illustrated 224-page book entitled, “Imperial Guide to Tamriel”; a printed map of the game world; a metal disc case; along with an assortment of exclusive, in-game digital content (that includes a Mudcrab vanity pet, the “Rings of Mara”, and the option of playing as an Imperial complete with a summonable white steed).
As attractive as those items are, it’s the The Elder Scrolls Online Imperial Edition Molag Bal statue, that we’ve found to be particularly covetable. This limited edition collectible based on the “Daedric Prince of Domination and Enslavement” is a monument to the game’s principal antagonist that’s a fitting, display-worthy complement to the Dragon statue that shipped with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition.
The Elder Scrolls Online Imperial Edition Molag Bal statue arrives packed in three pieces requiring simple assembly. Once the figure is planted on the base and the coiled tail is inserted, the complete sculpture stands roughly 12” tall. The vinyl cast Molag Bal statue has a faux-bronze finish that makes its weight appear more substantial than it actually is. Although the color palette and articulation are limited, there’s tremendous detail in the “Daedric Prince’s” anatomy and mace. The intricately hewn hapless warrior clutched in the creature’s right hand is a prime example of the attention paid toward capturing the finer elements that’s worth special mention.
Suffice it to say, The Elder Scrolls Online Imperial Edition, is a worthy acquisition for longtime fans of Bethesda’s beloved fantasy role-playing series. With a molded tribute to the series’ malevolent Daedric lord and an assortment of additonal physical and digital loot to plunder, this premium set is a must-have.
The Elder Scrolls Online Imperial Edition is available now for PC and Mac and releases for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 30, 2014.
